The short-tailed drongo is a species of passerine bird in the family Dicruridae. It is endemic to the Philippines. Its natural habitat is tropical moist lowland forests. It was formerly conspecific with the Hair-crested drongo but was designated as unique based on its different sounding call, physical differences and through molecular studies.

Occurs in lowland and foothill forests of the northern Philippines, favoring primary and mature secondary evergreen forest. It uses forest interiors, edges, and clearings with tall trees for perching and sallying. The species also occupies riverine corridors and selectively logged areas where sufficient canopy remains. It generally avoids open farmland and heavily urbanized zones, but may persist in mosaic landscapes with patches of tall trees.
