Useful to know

This large, glossy parrot is native to the Fiji islands of Vanua Levu and Taveuni and has been present in southern Tonga since prehistoric introductions. It often travels in noisy groups and is an important seed disperser for native forest trees. The species is sometimes lumped with the crimson shining parrot of Kadavu, but most authorities treat them as separate. Habitat loss and trapping can impact local populations, so it benefits from intact forest and protection.
