Useful to know

The crinkle-collared manucode is a bird-of-paradise notable for its subtly iridescent black plumage and the distinctive crinkled feathers forming a loose collar around the neck. Unlike many birds-of-paradise, males and females look very similar and the species is largely monogamous. Its far-carrying, flute-like calls travel through the rainforest canopy, often betraying its presence before it is seen.

Feeding Habits

Diet

Primarily feeds on fruits and berries, especially figs and other canopy fruits. It supplements its diet with insects and other small invertebrates gleaned from foliage. Feeding often centers on seasonal fruiting trees, which it visits repeatedly.

Preferred Environment

Forages high in the canopy and along forest edges where fruit is abundant. Will also feed in subcanopy layers and at mid-levels, moving methodically from branch to branch.
