Typical Environment

Occurs along the Pacific slope in humid lowland and foothill rainforests from eastern Panama through western Colombia to northwestern Ecuador. It favors forest edges, second-growth thickets, vine tangles, and riverine vegetation, and also enters selectively logged forest. The species is most often found in the understory to midstory, where it moves actively through dense foliage. It commonly joins mixed-species flocks, especially with other small insectivores. Local abundance declines where forests are heavily fragmented.

Useful to know

The Pacific antwren, sometimes called the Pacific streaked antwren, is a small antbird of the Chocó biogeographic region. Males and females look strikingly different, with the male boldly black-and-white and the female warm buff and streaked. It often travels with mixed-species flocks, gleaning tiny insects from foliage. Though not globally threatened, it depends on intact humid forests and can be sensitive to heavy deforestation.
