Useful to know

The rosy pipit is a high-country pipit that breeds on alpine and subalpine meadows, developing a subtle pinkish wash on the breast in the breeding season. It nests on the ground, well hidden among grasses, and often forms loose flocks outside the breeding season. It can be tricky to separate from other pipits; look for the pale supercilium, fine bill, and white outer tail feathers, plus the seasonal rosy tinge. In winter it descends to lower elevations and can turn up in fields, marshy edges, and riverine grasslands.
